Discovery After Dark

Similar to Discovery Day, Discovery After Dark focuses on interactive activities for adults! Bring on the risky and the NSFW science. Form teams to compete with your friends or compete individually to win amazing prizes! 

 

MainStreet collaborates with local institutions like Bathtub Row Brewing Coop, Los Alamos Teen Center, Samizdat Bookstore, Fuller Lodge Art Center and others to bring you playful STEAM activities for adults to unwind, learn and play! This is the 2nd annual "STEAM for Adults" event. Last year, This event was piloted under the name "Play Crawl".

How to participate

  • Collect a Bingo card at a participating location. Choose between competing as a team or as an individual! 

  • Get a stamp at each location by participating in the activities presented there. 

  • Turn in your completed card with at least 5 stamped spots for a chance to win amazing prizes!

Los Alamos ScienceFest is a Fun-filled festival that is FREE and open to the public, organized by Los Alamos MainStreet in conjunction with over 80+ partners, collaborators and sponsors. Community leaders, businesses, local non-profits and organizations collaborate and share hands-on STEAM activities at Discovery Day, each year!

DISCOVERY AFTER DARK

VENDOR/EXHIBITOR PROCEDURES 

This information is only for registered food vendors/exhibitors at Discovery day. Participants are free to attend the event around downtown Los Alamos anytime from 4pm -9pm without any prior registration. 

HOURS 

SATURDAY, JULY 13, 2024

4 AM – 8 PM Discovery After Dark Exhibitors around DownTown Los Alamos

8 PM - 9 PM Night Sky viewing at Overlook Park, (Backup Location- PEEC Planetarium) 

VENUE: 

Downtown Los Alamos 

SETUP TIME: 

SATURDAY, JULY 13, 3 PM- 4 PM

 

PARKING – Exhibitors that are hosting in their own spaces, eg- Samizdat Bookstore or Fuller Lodge Art Center, must use their own parking spaces. Exhibitors hosting at other venues, like PEEC and Bathtub row, should contact their hosting venues for more information. 

 

SPACE/ASSIGNMENTS – Space assignments were made according to the needs of exhibitors and the festival as a whole. Please bring your own banners to advertise your organization. A map is also provided via email attachment. The main aerial map will be shared publicly with media and there will be copies of all maps on the Bingo Cards during the event. 

 

TENT/CANOPY SETUP – If you are located outside and require shelter, you must bring your own unless otherwise mentioned via email. All tents and materials that you bring in should be secured. It is common to have high winds in Los Alamos. You must secure your tent using weights (NO STAKES). 

 

ELECTRICAL HOOKUP - If you are located outside during the event and would require an electric connection, please contact Alison at Alison@LosAlamos.org

 

WIFI – If you need access to WiFi, we have been told to use the “ladiscoveries” connection, as that will offer the fastest service. 

 

ASSISTANCE – There will be volunteers around to help you with any questions or needs you might have; they will be wearing orange T-shirts and ScienceFest Staff will be wearing tie dye T-shirts that say "Staff" on the back. Please call one of the organizer contact numbers listed below, should you not find immediate assistance. 

 

EMERGENCY – In case of emergency please contact the nearest staff member.

 

LIABILITY – Los Alamos MainStreet, County of Los Alamos, the Los Alamos Creative District and sponsors will assume no responsibility for theft or damage of equipment or merchandise at any time during your participation in this event. Please do not leave your items unattended. Vendors/exhibitors are responsible for the compliance with all appropriate city and state ordinances/statues. 

 

PHOTOS & SOCIAL MEDIA – Please share event photos on social media using the hashtag #ScienceFest23 as well as tagging Los Alamos Mainstreet (IG: @Mainstreet_LosAlamos, FB: Los Alamos MainStreet, Los Alamos ScienceFest ). ScienceFest organizers will also come by and take photos of your booth, which we will share with you later.
